Not worth its own topic, but...

So amir ships things uninsured, and when it went wrong, just asked others for the money to refund the guy?

Agreed, this should be rolled into the other AudioScienceReview thread.

However, in a nutshell, this is what happened. Hopefully he can insure the equipment he ships back to owners now using this slush fund.

I don't know what sort of an expose I expected! Amir has sex with under-aged DACs? For money? Caught in a threesome with two speakers? Discovered to have no ears?

I had hoped, even if it wasn't going to be juicy, it would, at least, be interesting.

I don't think you know what the word "exposed" means. Sure, Amir made a stupid mistake, but a lot of really decent people stepped up to help fix the situation. I'm sure people here would do the same if something in the loaner program got lost or destroyed.

I would never ask any one of you to donate for members' gear under my care that went missing. We had a scare with the U18t a while back and I was about to immediately fully pay out @rhythmdevils out of my own pocket while I dealt with FedEx. Fortunately, FedEx found the package one day later.

I partially insure packages with money set in reserve because insurance costs do add up. This is called self-insuring. Not insuring, aka self-insuring, means that you pay out of your own pocket when shit goes wrong. I've been doing this long enough and know shit will get lost. In such cases, I have always made it right.

The fact that Amir asks his members to cover his mistakes, the risks of his not insuring, so he can save a few bucks, rubs me the wrong way, considering that the dude is a 1%er with a 2M+ abode up in the Pacific NW. I mean, how low can you go? I don't know how many of this members know that. That his members are all too willing underwrite his losses, that's disturbing cult like behavior.

I'd rather kill myself than take advantage of decent people. This just shows what a narcissist Amir is, that he doesn't care about his members, only himself.

Probably not an expose since we already know or figured... But damn, the reality of it, seeing it happen with nobody asking: WTF is wrong with this guy? WTF is wrong with his cult like followers?

he admits later in the thread that the headphones were found (apparently sitting in his house the whole time) and yet the original post wasn't updated to reflect this, why?

people are going to read the OP and continue to donate thinking their donation is going to reimburse a member who lost something. sad!

BTW, his nonchalant attitude about gear that is loaned to him is reflective of its purpose - filler content for the homepage when he does not currently have a product from a company that is cutting him checks (Harman/SMSL)

    wake up sheeple

To clarify, I wasn't implying Amir was off the hook. I agree that what he did was extremely asinine, to say the least, although I had no idea he was a 1%. Now that definitely rubs me the wrong way and strikes me as Uncle Scrooge panhandling for more money.

I was really trying to emphasize that many people in this hobby are good people who care about their cohorts and will step up to fix things with bad things happen. As much as ASR can be a total craphole, I found encouragement by the generosity of others. But now I'm pissed that Amir had the means himself to right the ship.

He was VP at Microsoft for their consumer division overseeing thousands of people. Microsoft doesn't do title inflation. When you are VP at Microsoft, that's truly very high up. The circumstances of his departure from Microsoft are unclear, but I'm willing to bet he got a decent package and was paid damn well during his stint there.

He now runs Madrona Digital in Bellevue, WA. He's a Harmon dealer. Not going to dox the guy, but it's not hard to find his address and look up his place on Zillow or Redfin.

Ultra cheap and rich - always a winning combination. The request for funds also demonstrates a massive ego that needs constant stroking. The fact that others who follow behind him, carrying his coattails, throw a bunch of money at someone who clearly has more money than they do boggles my mind, and shows just how indoctrinated they are. You screw something up, and then ask your members to pay for it because “otherwise I don’t know if I can do these reviews anymore”. Holy shit this guy just keeps getting better.

Different take here. By giving money to ASR, contributors feel more invested in the site and Amir can claim a free public relations win because these donations foster a belief that members "have each others backs" and will protect losses rather than depending on Amir to do so, even if ethically he should be covering it since he lost it.

Oh noes! I lost a member's very expensive headphones! So sad. I feel terrible. Please give me money so your fellow peer won't be SOL. We're all friends here. Sorry I don't insure - it's only because I do things for you.

Oh, guess what? I found them! Turns out I forgot to ship them out.

Ahh, shucks! I get to keep what you gave me anyway? You guys are so sweet!

Amir is acting like a racial stereotype, and the joke is getting old considering I'm also half Indo by blood.

Edit: Amir it not an Indo name, eh I'm leaving my post as is. Just sick of rich cheap ass folks.

OK, totally true. And I have never had a good word to say about Amir. The most polite I have ever been about him was, having encountered him online, once is enough.

Sorry about the scorn and ridicule. But hey, it was fun. And, ultimately, it is scorn and ridicule for Amir, not for @Roget. And I guess I associate expose with the juicier stuff that dodgy people do, rather than the routine. With the salacious, rather than the just-plain-mean.

In the main thread, this would be just one more item, one more brick in the wall.

Good point about insurance. Insurance against stuff one cannot afford to take is wonderful. Insurance against stuff one can afford, even if painfully, is a waste of money. Especially as that money is spent, again and again, in premiums. Insurance is good; self-insurance, where affordable, is better.

You got me curious... holy f**k. Maybe I'm just weird, but if I was that stacked I wouldn't be asking my members for money to fix my own dumbass mistake.

Nope, you're normal. Any human being with the slightest amount of dignity will do that too, but not Amir...

I gotta stop reading those threads about ASR, my blood pressure can't take it anymore.
