While it's a bit early for lockdown nostalgia (not sure if it'll ever be time), I've nonetheless been enjoying a few of the isolation/lockdown gigs that various artists recorded during their times away from live shows. A good couple of examples came from The Wedding Present, the first of whose two 'Locked Down & Stripped Back' sets was also released for sale.

Here are a couple of cuts. Nice vocal from the bass player in the second, and great cameos from Gedge's dog in both.

I've always loved a song that tells a story. A ballad! In recent decades, it can be even better if accompanied by a well-done video. If the whole thing is whacky, more than a bit surreal, and manages to be a little bit touching too: winner!

Nanowar of Steel: And then I noticed that she was a gargoyle...

Reading the word "shenanigans" in a PM couldn't help but remind me of these smartarse Newfie lyricizers:

And their more tender lockdown lament:

    Thelonious Monk - Monk's Dream

Trying to get more into piano jazz lately. I think Peterson and Jarret are next, it's just that I can't get enough of Monk lately.

The other night I watched the movie "Creation Stories" about Alan McGee, founder of Creation Records, which had a great scene of this band playing live in a London pub:

It's a fun song and cheered me up no end. I love these lyrics:

They play their records very loud
    They pogo in their bedroom
    In front of the mirror
But only when their mum's gone out

The movie's pretty good, though probably best for those nostalgic for the UK music scene in the late 80s/early 90s.

If you like Daft Punk and The Crystal Method and like giving your drivers a workout, Yello needs to be in there too:
