The recent passing of Ray Sawyer is a good reason to (re)read Okkervil River’s Will Sheff’s essay on Dr. Hook’s ‘74 Musikladen performance.

I know this has been discussed before, but if you think you have tinnitus, look at your medications (especially antidepressants).

Sorry, but antidepressant usually don cause tinnitus. This is a rare side effect. They could worse the symptoms if the person ALREADY has the tinnitus... Other medication , very common are the cause for tinnitus. (Antibiotics, blood pressure drugs, etc) I do work with psychopharmacology since 1995 and have seen 4 or 5 cases of tinnitus caused by drugs, most of them caused by 2. Generation of anti psychotic

I didn’t say everyone on antidepressants gets tinnitus. I said people w/tinnitus should check their meds. Even single digit incidence is a lot of people in raw #s, given how many Americans take antidepressants. It definitely was the cause of my tinnitus, and the audiologist I just saw (who specializes in tinnitus) says she sees people all the time who don’t realize their tinnitus is caused by their antidepressant.

Unfortunately, the only antidepressant of the six or seven I’ve tried that doesn’t cause tinntus also doesn’t help my nerve pain much, which is why I was taking an antidepressant in the first place.

I thought the Fidelio X2 was my end game at one point.

I had much worse takes back in my early days. Besides “endgame,” X2 isn’t an embarrassment. Better bang/buck than a lot of mid-fi non-neutral headphones (definitely than all the Beyers and arguably than Elear, IMO).

The X2 are actuall one of the few I would consider buying again. They are pretty inexpensive secondhand these days.
Good bass/spaciousness for movies and games.
Easy to drive and comfy. Works well with boom mic

I haven't been a fan of much of their subsequent work, but damn the MFSL CD of August & Everything After is terrific (Yggdrasil > Rag > Atticus).

Although the 45 RPM Analog remastered vinyl is crazy good too. This is the one album I own in multiple audiophile formats.

I've owned-then-sold five $300-$800 range Planars (Audeze, HFM, Oppo, MrSp). Maybe time to say I don't like planars?

The PM-3 is the only headphone I regret selling. It’s not the best at anything but it was extremely comfortable and made very pleasant sounds that I enjoyed.

There's a good chance I'll give Garuspik's a chance as my next planar. They're damn sexy, which doesn't hurt their odds.

Hey @Merrick, have you tried the HP50s? If you liked the PM3s, I think you'd also like the HP50s, which can be had much cheaper (new now for $125ish). A steal, IMO.

@Josh83 I haven’t tried those, but I remember them being mentioned in the discussions about budget planars. Not sure I need them now, my longing for the PM-3 is more emotional than out of an actual need for them.

The TLDR is that companies are using services that automatically cancel orders deemed likely of being fraud. The example in the story was a dad who bought headphones from Audeze for his son, only to find out many days later that his order had been canceled because he'd opted for fast shipping, which had trigger the fraud service to cancel it.

As an update, what’s odd is that the *volume* is clearly lower. But since the tone has also changed, it’s somewhat more noticeable right now. I’m hoping that will change as my brain gets used to it. Plus, I’m going to have to try a new medication for my back, since that’s never going away. TLDR, anyone taking medication that messes with neurotransmitters should pay attention to how it affects your hearing.

Has anyone experienced closed headphones making your ears feel congested after long use? I swear EL-8s Titaniums are doing this to me.

Nearly all closed headphones get a little hot after a while, just one their things.

I’m used to hot. But these EL8Ts create some kind of suction, at least on my head, that actually makes my ears pop when swallowing after wearing them for a while. Weird.

The AFO does this to me sometimes, and it's an open headphone. The suction-type seal is the reason, I think.
