What's the point of them at a bank? These printers have fax and internet fax, regular fax takes 5 or more min depending on job, internet fax takes 10 seconds.

Fax is still one of the most secure ways of sending confidential documents. In the car financing world a lot of dealerships don't use internet fax.

consistency, lowest common denominator (like email)... you can walk off the street into a kinkos to send a fax.

secure? now that it's over ip (the internet) no more secure than anything else-- ie does it use public/private encryt? does it do it correctly, is there a backdoor?

people resist change, gotta have that fax, even now that 99% its an email/internet image, the fax machine is just a token auto jpg printer

The only thing worse than a dot-matrix printer is a fax machine.

The last one I worked with wouldn't work without a weight in a certain place on the cabinet. Someone took a stone from the foyer display and put it there. I added a do-not-touch note: This machine will not work unless it is stoned.

I figure most places use it like a deterrent. Canceling gym membership? Fax in this form. Appealing insurance claim decision? Fax in your evidence.

@Scott Kramer still old school fax, still comment in business. Sometimes you are just not near a computer. Happens often at dealerships and closing for a mortgage.

I can't remember the last time I was near a fax machine. Mayne... the one with the stone on the top: 2002?

Here when we say: going to get a fax, it’s a slang for going to take a dump/

    How curious!

Does it have a confidentiality warning printed on it?
