I'm still running CS6 subscription-free muahaha. Seriously though what a terrible trend

If you’re not careful you could easily wind up spending a fortune just on stupid mobile app subscriptions. Apps that are very limited or specific in use. Charging me 2 subscriptions for photoshop is just shameless. And not in the good TV show way

I don’t understand why corporations think ripping people off goes one way. This kind of shit is what started Napster and why people will continue to steal music and Photoshop etc

I switched from Adobe to Affinity. Their Photo and designer apps are 99% of photoshop and illustrator.

I predominantly use Lightroom and a little bit of photoshop. I stupidly switched to the subscription a little over 3yrs ago (I don't even remember why... maybe it was to get a camera profile). I regret it every month.

Anyone know if a competitor can read/import a lightroom catalog?

I bet Capture One would do it. A lot of professionals seem to be switching over to that. But not for cost reasons I don’t know how expensive it is.

Thanks... definitely going to look at it. I used to shoot thousands of images a year and used the heck out of lightroom. The last 2 yrs have been well under 1k a year and I feel like my catalog has trapped me into an endless subscription just to maintain access. I'd jump all over a perpetual license at this point.

Capture One is supposed to render color and tonality better as far as I understand it. So it’s probably not the cheaper option you’re looking for. It could be more expensive but I’ll probably switch when I start photographing again. Adobe’s RAW profiles suck

Whoa what? I’m on the $10 plan but I hadn’t heard about the change.

Capture 1 is really really good with xtrans files. Better than LR. @dasman66 Adobe provides a LR catalog export tool. You’d prolly lose edits but get your original files in a format you could use elsewhere

Just spent the last couple hrs reading up... LR @ $10/mth vs perpetual license @ $299. If I shot Fuji or Sony or Nikon, the price would be way less... but I shoot canon.

Biggest minus for me is no panorama stitching, HDR, or focus stacking in Capture One. Also no content aware fill... so I would still need photoshop or find alternatives. Otherwise, Capture One looks superior to LR

Yeah i am tired of the subscription model too. Capture 1 is on the cards Tried the trial version when i shot FUji. BUt then switched to canon, hence LR, PS. Now on Sony. SO might be time to swap again

I still have my college email from a decade ago. Somehow it's still active, so I can use my school's free subscription.

Yeah same, @dasman66 Lightroom and PS on both desktop and iPad. I was afraid something had changed with that.

Can I just mention the free alternatives? Darktable, Rawtherapee, GIMP...

If I had Windows, I'd be checking out Capture One, because, Sony. Otherwise, Affinity. Having only Linux on the desktop predates my active, daily interest interest in photography by years, so I don't have these choices.

I'm on an $11.49/mo 'Photography' plan including Photoshop and Lightroom and a bunch of other stuff. Maybe check what you qualify for.

I have the photoshop and LR plan as well. I signed into my “creative cloud” account in the photoshop mobile app and it wanted me to pay an added cost for a subscription. f**k you Adobe

C1's color science is a bit better than Adobe's for my taste, Adobe's cross platform sync and convenience for bulk editing is still unmatched. I use both, but I can justify it as a work expense. C1 is also headed to a subscription model. As is everyone. f**k micro transactions - they really stink. Yay capitalism?

I use Adobe Audition. $264/yr with taxes. For ten year's use that is $2640. I don't need all the updates. So I can commiserate about hating the subscription model. I'm considering cancelling this year and using only Cubase and CEP2, which I already have.
