Right, much as anyone who makes an effort to change can always do so regardless of age (not everyone is raised kindly) it did read like he was glossing over a lot of the offensive Discord jokes and the petty squabbles involved, not to mention the genuinely uncalled-for asshattery against some here.
It's a start. He doesn't have a PR or marketing person to help, hence I feel there more sincerity here than the fake apologies from Hollywood with respect to Apu. People deserve second chances. This is the American way.
I hope it isn't purely an American thing since it only makes sense that any effort to be better need be acknowledged and respected so that the people who are attempting to change themselves by modifying fundaments of their being can be held accountable.
I honestly felt this was the case all along. I got a good feeling about him from his posts about his headphones and thought all the controversy was just cultural differences or a misunderstanding. But I could still be wrong...
@jowls That's the main reason I'm still on the fence personally; it was an A-tier callous, inane butthead move to do that. Still falls under the purview of _was_ an idiot, though actually owning up to past mistakes is a prerequisite. Call me overly vigilant but the intern excuse is sus.
@jowls thats the part that still gives me pause. He blamed it on an intern or new hire or something, answering his emails because he was too busy building product. Maybe these were angry drunken outbursts, but who knows.
IIRC the racism and homophobia seemed secondary, at least in some cases, to being abusive. It was so surprising given how well he otherwise came across. There being two sides to him, and so opposite, was alarming in and of itself.
It could be genuine or just motivated by business interests. With all sympathy to his current circumstances I feel skeptical and wary as far as that goes.
Still I feel for anyone in that situation, even if they have said a lot of bad words to a bunch of internet strangers.
@purr1n Yeah, northern city center. By now he could have volunteered or been drafted. With a lot of artillery, bombing, and thermobaric rockets heading their way, and food running low. Civilians are about to have a really bad time.
I wish everybody in Ukraine well. But that doesn't mean that I want to talk to them.
My dim brain cells recall some comment about delivery guys that was racist beyond forgiving. So I prefer to forget, and won't make any effort to revise all that stuff.
