Currently considering getting a desktop but yeah, holy crap. Might just be running off integrated graphics until buying a GPU is less of a mess. Thankfully most of the games I like are old school CRPGs, haha. Most intensive in recent memory is Portal 2 lmao

Yeah I just got cyberpunk 2077 and my computer is struggling to run it on my 3840x1600 monitor, at lowerst settings

Think someone else said this in a profile post I made but at least by the time I can get a proper GPU there's a fair chance 2077 will be better-optimised, haha. I'm probably aiming for an AMD build at this point, seems better value with good enough performance.

20 series was barely better than 10 series, and AMDs 5700 was mid-tier at best. 30 series is a massive jump from 20 series and especially 10 series. Most people with 10 series cards didn't get 20 series and we're waiting for something more meaningful. Now the demand is insane, but the supply isn't there because of covid and other factors.

You have to wait a month or two unfortunately. The demand/supply ratio is off the charts.

About Cyberpunk 2077, I recommend using AMD upscaling. I play 2k upscaled to 4k with great results. You can find the option in the graphics settings.

Waiting to pull the trigger on a 3080. Got roughly $1200 sitting and waiting for upgrades. Hoping to use some of that for storage though lol. The market is insane right now!

Going from a sata ssd to PCIE gen 4 is a crazy improvement, just FYI. My load times in cyberpunk are sub 10 seconds.

High demand, low supply. If you can resist the urge to upgrade now, you will save time and money really. Nvidia expects March for 3080 supply to hit demand.

I recently joined a Discord channel that follows restocks in the off chance I can snag a 3070 or a PS5. Apparently the info is good, but the yield is low because buying bots are still very active.

You can probably find a used 20 series card and run it for a few months and sell it and make out better than paying scalper prices for the 30 series cards. As Jason points out, it may be well into the spring before supply can meet demand on the new cards.

A Discord was how I was able to secure my 3080s, cpus and PS5 but it still ends up being a competition with thousands of people. Best Buy drops like roughly every other week and has a few protections against bots at least.

Found an evga 3080 in stock so i jumped on it. Think i was in time but christmas and weekend are in the way before i know for sure. If the rumored 3080ti 20gb model releases within 90 days i can use the step up program.

@Cspirou Nobody has mined bitcoins on GPUs for years. Even if the electricity is free, it takes far too long to break even. Most cryptos won't break even either with electricity costs. Even if you live somewhere with free electricity, the cost to performance ratio is very much against the newest cards. Much easier to pick up a half dozen used 980's which pay for themselves faster.

Miners are definitely a contributing factor to these shortages, maybe not bitcoin specifically but Nvidia did sell at least $175 million of gpus direct to miners.

@spwath are you running an nvidia 20xx or higher? DLSS is hugely beneficial for CP2077.

OK. I would stick to 1080p or even 720p with that. The game is just too graphics intensive for less than a 1080ti or so. I'm running a "budget" rtx 2060 which is about $350 with a i7 9700. And I run 4k on low settings with dlss in quality mode. I get about 45 frames average.

I used a discord channel that gave stock alerts to get a 3060 TI and it was a huge upgrade from my 980. The 980 was really struggling at 3440x1440p.

    ^TL;DR - Good luck even breaking 40fps even at 1440p if you don’t have a $1500 GPU.

Man, that's brutal. Times like these I'm glad I use a 1080p hi-hz display. A 2060 keeps that fed at ~85-90fps with psycho SSR and a lot of the other heavier settings at high or medium. DLSS quality saves it from starting to lag under 60 and it even looks more natural in some ways.

But that makes me think 1440p is doable. RT would be pushing it. And it's just like last time, even with the new cards RTX doesn't keep up at 4k. Can't say I'm surprised at this point. Nvidia really does have you by the balls on this one.
