I actually think it's a good moral justification to download this shit instead of paying because of bullshit exclusive deals.
When HBO let you access GoT without a cable sub it was because of the massive number of people downloading that had zero options to pay for streaming alone. Not because of people simply demanding it
I'm getting too old and fat to bit torrent my way out of things. As I get older and fatter, I am realizing that I am valuing my time more than not. Of course I know where to get stuff if I tried, but I have better things to do.
Hulu, Netflix, HBO Go take up most of my streaming time. Disney+ Is useful for my kid and for Star Wars. Amazon Video is free with Prime anyway. I don’t subscribe to the network specific services, what a rip off.
I’m sharing the cost of Hulu with a bunch of people, way more convenient than torrenting. You can do the same with HBO Go. My total cost per month just for streaming services is under $30 per month, and I’d be paying for Internet if I had cable anyway, and this way I can watch what I want without commercials and shit.
We get HBO Max bundled with our AT&T cell phone service, which my employer subsidizes. We've used Netflix for years and kept that subscription, then Amazon as part of Prime, and Disney+ now (prepaid annually). AppleTV is great. Apple's bitrate for rented movies is amazing too. Looks very close to Blu-ray to me due to the lack of compression artifacts.
@zonto have you ever rented films from Prime Video before? Curious on which one is better: Apple TV or Prime Video. I always been surprised on the streaming quality on Prime Video.
@YMO I have rented from Prime Video before. I hate the Prime Video app. Its UX is garbage, and their organization is horrible. You search for a movie and it sometimes shows you multiple HD and 4K versions. Rented films from Apple on the AppleTV 4K have consistently looked better than Netflix and Amazon. I'll exclude Disney+ from the comparison as I haven't used it much.
@YMO I'll add that I also have my AppleTV hooked into a wired gigabit switch behind the TV stand. I imagine the quality increases I'm seeing on my 1080p plasma would only be magnified if watching 4K content on your new OLED fed by the AppleTV 4K (2nd gen). ;)
I used to think I'd just torrent whatever I missed or wanted, but honestly my attention span is so short now I don't even bother and just find other readily available mind numbing time wasters to shine at my eyeballs.
Google let's you share YouTube TV + HBO Max with 5 family members for free. If you split the cost, it's About $15 each per month. They all PayPal me a nice even $20.
