Started golfing again. Using a mobile launch monitor adds instant feedback for each swing. I still suck, but on the way to less suckiness. Nov 15, 2023

FWIW, I use a Rapsodo MLM2Pro for a launch monitor. Launch monitors can be ridiculously priced, but the MLM2Pro was “reasonable.”

Picked up 10-15 yards on my golf shots today, but inconsistent grip issues had me hitting things 10-20 yards left when missing badly. :-|

I enjoy golfing for the fresh air, nice surroundings, and camaraderie. If you take the game itself too seriously it will have nervosa to rival any in audio.

@Kernel Kurtz I only go golfing with my sons. We enjoy our time together every weekend. We pitch and putt, par 3, or play a full-sized course. Golf actually gives me a good workout. :-)

@luckybaer my dad took me golfing as a kid and I golfed with him until he was 92. We both always complained about our games but it was never really about that. Sounds like you have the right idea. Cheers!

You can on an iPad. Should be fine on the iPhone if it happens in the states. Hopefully they give enough juice for them on the phones.

The only thing I’ve had issues with on iPad Pro is that *some* charging cables have issues. I’ve settled on these particular cheap ones at Walmart that are built decently and I’ve never had issues with but I have had issues with various name brands. Aside from the odd charging issue every other device I have plugged in has worked. Various DAC dongles, media connections, etc..

If you don't play mono records, you don't need it. If you do play mono records, a mono switch cancels sound that a stereo cart can make when playing on a mono record.

And to my ears anyway, with my symphonic metal stuff (specifically Epica - The Phantom Agony): it's much harder to follow individual sonic elements e.g. vocals/instruments in more compressed releases, like they're buried deeper in Miscellaneous Noise^TM.

Compression artifacts and clipping are pretty obvious to me and unfortunately in 99% of new releases on popular music. Even a lot of reissues/remasters of great sounding old shit that was good when it was first issued. One of the major reasons I'll never stream. 75% at least of my listening is old shit pre 99

That place is gross now it's a bunch of old people that use it as their personal Facebook page. Say anything they don't agree with and they get like 6 of their friends together and complain to the mods. I'm still banned from the Amazon vinyl deals thread cuz I kept saying how everything they shipped me was trashed during shipping and that Amazon sucks.

Something else that works well is if you have a compost bin you put the bin right over the stump. For one it covers the stump but it also accelerates the decomposition and results in the best compost ever

@Cspirou I'm hoping we can do something similar. Let the inside of the stump decay and plant something. Eventually, we'd like the whole area to be a small garden.

Assuming an "audiophile" USB cable can make a positive difference going from PC to DAC, would it also improve going from PC to Singxer SU-6?

So better shielding might actually be audible in the DAC case. I severely doubt that materials of the cable itself and other audiophile shenanigans will really make a difference, though.

Just to add that: Note that the above with the 1 and 0 is grossly oversimplified. In reality, the clock for the DAC is regenerated from the signal at larger intervals than 1 bit, and I'm not sure myself how much impact cable noise can even have on the precision of that clock. But at least, there is an imaginable impact.

Personally, I can't imagine how an impact that a cable from PC to DDC would have should work, so my guess is that there can't be an impact unless you compare a cable that is utter crap or faulty to a better cable, or the cable is very long. There shouldn't be any audible difference above, say, 10$ if the cable isn't longer than 1.5m or so.
