@Lickumms 's FS listings (GLWS) got me wondering about estat options. I wonder what the quality of estat amps is like today. Used Stax and DCA headphones, among others, aren't too pricey either, now.

iFi (used), Mjolnir Audio or a Lundahl modded SRD7 is what purr1n suggested when I asked. The Stax amps in general underperforms for the price. Lickumm is offering a good deal.

I had the iESL and quite liked it, but they are harder and harder to find these days. If one were looking on the used market for the iCan Pro and iESL, then the Phantom is kinda close to the combined price used these days.

I use Etymotic and have been nervous to try anything else. Take them to concerts, musicals, movies, etc.

I swear by earasers, the fit is the best I've found and it seems to muffle the sound the least. I've used countless earplugs but none work as well for me.

Music earplugs with 15-25 dB of cut is nowhere near enough for shooting. Muffs are better than foam plugs because they block the concussion on part of the head also but the double-up is the best. I'm largely done shooting though. It's just too unhealthy. Also gun exploding and putting me in surgery may play into that

this should be fine to do afaik, whether it sounds good or not or will have weird output impedance stuff going on I have no idea though - I used to use a gustard h10 with a 1/4 to rca as a makeshift preamp a long time ago when I was broke in college

Isn’t this kind of thing what the TI-1A is designed for? Always thought it just took the headphone out and adapted it to provide a proper output for the SR1a.

@internethandle - yeah, I've driven the SR1a thru the TI-1a from the Stratus. It doesn't drive it well enough, too soft.

May be Kodak Luma 350. I bought one cheap LG PF50KA around 6 years back. Works ok. But I guess they don't make it any longer.

Its a little funny, Resolve/Goldensound were critical of Sus Unveiled plus I get emails from folks upset at the tier list video when they plus DMS called the closed back HFMs awful. Been trying to bring in the new Raal stuff to our store without much success since I had customers asking us if we could bring it in

Seems like the usual discourse on HF when it comes popular FOTM items, if our team dislikes it then ultimately we get accused of shilling because we carry a rival product in the store. Content team and store team is separated and they crap on products we carry all the time lol

Not much commentary here on the second film. I liked it a great deal but felt another installment is much needed.

I’m just not convinced of a tangible improvement in the iem space. Just seem like rehashes

MEMS is new tech so that could be fun, but current prices are offensive. I feel like stuff in IEM space peaked a few years ago and now it's just a matter of bringing costs down. I'm much less familiar with portable audio but the CA Solaris remains my fave IEM of all time (just that the DD keeps fricking dying on me, agh). On the Andro 2020 now, I'm just done.

I'm super cautious of another all BA design. I'm assuming the driver tech has improved since Ara/Gold or just another variant.

I remain a fan, and this is my travel amp. I'll gladly carry the extra weight for the improvement over sound vs. going iPhone direct.
