@Claritas I don't think you're wrong. I'm almost entirely irish/catholic heritage but when I lived in Brookyln I assume it was my beard and big nose that had the Hasids/cab drivers/deli guys regularly asking me if I was a member of the tribe.

@bobboxbody Was it funny, irritating, both, or something else? I lived in 55% white / 45% Mexican suburb for 2.5 years. And it drove me crazy that the local *bank* branch *started* the conversation in Spanish. I kept thinking, "This is America. What the f**k is wrong with you people?!" I knew a young Mexican there who would speak only English in businesses. Bet he's doing very well for himself.

@Claritas I didn't think much of it either way except that made me realize lots of people think I'm a Jew because my face fits into a stereotypical category. Typically Jews are the only ones who comment on it, aside from a super racist landlord who wanted to make sure I wasn't Greek and was happy when he thought I was Jewish because I would have lots of money to pay my rent.

(looks like Somerset has a Duke already, so I can't have that. Unless I march on him with men, horses and cannon maybe.)

Amusingly, I recently came to the obvious realisation that if DACs need time to "warm up" or "burn in", the same goes for ADCs! There was a guy that shared some recording samples of a fresh-out-of-box mic interface and the same interface a week later with all else being the same-- the difference was far from negligible. (WHY it took me so long to realise this? I'm slow on the best of days)

Ho, ho, ho, do not mix “burn in” with “warm up”! Why settle for one nervosa if you can have two for the same price? Not to mention the interaction of the two, like does necessary warm up time change during burn in? Is that change linear or asymptotic? f**k it, who cares just listen to music

Ahh, true. I remember the day when it took the valve TV five or ten minutes to warm up. And it did nothing until it had. The Radiogram took a minute or two. I cannot deny "warming up."

The internet is wonderful if you know some lyrics. Shazam is even better if you are listening to a song you don't know. And Google (and others) will apparently try to identify a tune if you can hum, sing, or whistle a portion as well. Have not tried that last one yet, but sure wish these things has been around when I was a kid.

Very true. And it never fails to amaze me, finding out how much stuff I misheard, even with my relatively better hearing of 50 years ago.

But this one, it didn't help. I eventually pieced most of the first line from disused brain cells, and google found nothing. Not even when I eventually located the song by listening and typed in the lyrics I could hear!

I didn't follow the details of Adams's fall from grace. I just know that he said some bad, racist, stuff.

His recent black male character on the strip was quite clever. IIRC, he ended up defying all pointy-hair's diversity plans by "identifying as a white woman."

That the strip was 99.9% white, though, should have sounded alarm bells long ago.

@SoupRKnowva, the large, ear-enclosing cups of the HDs are a winner for me, but the downside (literally, haha) is the interaction where they meet the lower jaw. And I sometimes wish they didn't.

But HD800 bothers me less in that respect than HD600 did.
