I see late nights of no play and all work for the next few days. Guess I better listen to my headphone rig while I can. Sep 22, 2020 at 1:28 AM

Hmm, the iFi Zen DAC ain't bad. Okay, it's not a Yggdrasil GS, but yeah, not bad.

The iFi stuff is very good. They do really good shit with that Burr Brown DAC chip. They are the best DS implementations that I’ve heard, at least for my preferences. (haven’t heard the Matrix, Convert, or other Yggdrasil priced DS stuff though).

I wouldn't recommend this without some reservations (some of which aren't related to sound), which I will go over. But it really ain't bad. This will go on loaner for those interested (thanks to @iFi audio)

Huh, the specs sheet says that XSP has hotter output than Yggdrasil, but my Yggdrasil GS has me using less of the pot. Wonder why this is.

I surmise we tend to set the volume to our own optimal position that is determined by a number of factors -- as opposed to sound pressure only. I bet if you 'measure' spl then everything would follow the specs.

Note there are two non-wrong ways: "Enough info at lower vol" vs "Not harsh at higher vol".

Actually, I'm a dumbass. This is because I'm only using the XLR-out from Yggdrasil (it goes to Jensen 1:1 transformer). I used SE from XSP, which is not as hot.

Think an OG LA-2A compressor has good distortion measurements? Fuck no! But it'll make almost any dry vocal track sound better in the studio, I can almost guarantee that. Compression is something to re-think too, but audiophiles aren't ready to talk about that.

"+N" part specifically useless. I don't like the idea of "Total", either.
Ratio of H2 to H3 (or maybe extended to H4) is imho far more important indicator to me.

Also power-induced harmonics (60n hz for integer n) typically make results unreadable without indicating much info.
