@Bloom, yes we have a milkman and a newspaperman. Our milkman delivers pasteurised milk, there is also a local milkman for from-the-cow milk, which we do not buy.

I emptied a packet of wasabi into a jar, and inhaled some of the powder that floated in the air. The only thing that hurt more was being stupid enough to want to know what concentrated nitric acid (with those amazing brown fumes) smells like.

I've had bad experience with FedEx myself; the dude literally didn't even ring the doorbell.

I think I could be partly to blame. My address on the supplier's site is slightly wrong. Surprisingly easily called the depot today. Our for delivery again: they gave me the guy's number.

It's nothing like it really, but... there are several mosques around here, and there is a little snippet in the Muslim Call to Prayer that my brain twists and turns into a little snippet from McGoohan's Blues!

Don't think I'm going to get far with changing Islamic tradition, so I guess I'm stuck with this one.

It's not what it was. Used to be just pure hifi, and only "separates" (2-channel stuff to my friends in America) but later came to include general electrical goods. Still a great place to buy last-year's model at a bargain price.

Back in the day... That particular day when I moved into a house by myself and didn't have anybody else's hifi to live with, Richer Sounds was still a small company with one or two shops. And they sold real treasures. Bankrupt stock as well as earlier models. At great prices.

I did some extra work, saved some pennies, and took about 400 UK pounds to their shop. Comparing reviews and measurements had really done my head in. I put it on the counter and said "What will this buy me!" And took home some nice Sony and Akai stuff.

Beards often make a man look older. I eschewed (bless you!) mine when I was thirty-something. Felt like I had come out of hiding!

Looking older three decades later is the last thing I want, but occasional shaving laziness shows that a beard is not really an option. It is patchy now, and uneven in colour. Horrible!

I guess I'd better ask the doc if I need extra inoculations. I could lick the cat. But I think they might be a bit too clean to help my immune system much.

At least I bite my finger nails, so there is hope.

It was packed much the same way as the previous one: I guess it got lucky.

It's not as nice as the old Marmite.

I think there may be two possible reasons for this....

1. Things just never are.

2. The last of the old Marmite had spent years in the jar, and may have become more concentrated.

But hey, it's Marmite :)

I regret that my thread got shut down before I could thank everyone for all the input. Yeah, the nuances of backups was more than I asked for, but there was still some very helpful content in the thread for me.

Stubbornly won't use condoms because they are not comfortable. That's why there are always headphones up for adoption here!

Since I'm unexperienced with jackfruit, how do you eat it, or prepare it? Interested because I'm in a family of pescatarians.

I've had some packaged barbeque jackfruit from the store which attempts to mimic shredded beef or pork. But it wasn't entirely successful IMO.

It is lots of what you might call softish seed pods inside. They are the edible bit. Geting them out is the hard-work bit. Cut into the fruit today, as it was getting brown spots already. Not that sweat raw, but utterly delicious deep-fried. Ate 15 pieces for dinner :)

The seeds are a bit like butter beans. They can make a nice dish too. I've always meant to video cutting the thing, and today I did. Don't know if it is youtube-able. But there is plenty already there. Look for such videos made in Kerala*. They have so much jackfruit there, you'd think it,... ahem... grows on trees!
