        I agree, people have one setup they used with a laptop. I personally hate that, so my weaker high value setup is on my computer desk while my PI setup has the BF2 > Starlett.

        In 99% of home setups, balanced/SE doesn't make any difference (obviously ignoring implementation in any specific piece of gear). In other words, buy shit that you think sounds good and don't pay too much attention to BAL/SE.

        For amps it kind of depends. For DACs though there seems to always be a positive going balanced. Even if there's a really good SE version, the balanced version is better.

        Back about ten years ago I was the drummer in a dub band. So much fun. But in relation to your status, I remember the first time I met the lead guitarist and singer. He came in from university, with a duffel bag. He said "man I've got to figure out what this stuff is!" I thought he meant his books, or something.
